DBT Skills Group

Build Your Emotional Tool Kit with a DBT Skills Group

Are you tired of feeling like your emotions are in the driver’s seat? In our fast-paced, high-achievement environment, many teens and adults find themselves caught in cycles of intense anxiety, reactive outbursts, or a sense of being perpetually overwhelmed. You might feel like you are “too much” for your friends or family, or perhaps you are struggling to maintain boundaries in the competitive North Texas landscape. You are not alone – and you don’t have to figure it out in isolation.

At Mindful Brooke Therapy, we offer a DBT Skills Group as part of our comprehensive DBT Therapy program. Unlike traditional talk therapy groups, our skills groups are structured like a “life-skills class” where you learn tangible tools to manage your mind. Whether you are a teen navigating the pressures of Frisco ISD or an adult balancing a demanding career and home life, our group provides a safe, boutique environment to practice growth. Best of all, we eliminate the frustration of long waitlists; we prioritize immediate access so you can begin building a life worth living right away.

What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)?

Overview of DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based, structured therapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions and improve overall well-being. At Mindful Brooke Therapy, our comprehensive DBT program teaches practical skills in four core areas. This skills-based approach equips clients with tools they can apply in everyday life for long-term emotional balance.

Evidence-Based Skills for Real-Life Challenges

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is the gold standard for treating emotional dysregulation. Research shows that DBT significantly improves symptoms of anxiety, depression, and BPD, with results lasting long after the group concludes. At Mindful Brooke Therapy, we don’t just teach the theory; we help you apply it to the specific stressors of living in North Texas. Our curriculum focuses on four core pillars:

  • Mindfulness: Learning to stay present at The Star, in traffic on the Tollway, or during a heated family dinner.
  • Distress Tolerance: How to get through a crisis without making it worse through impulsive decisions.
  • Emotion Regulation: Understanding your feelings so they don’t lead to “emotional hangovers.”
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Learning to say “no” and ask for what you need while keeping your self-respect and your relationships intact.

Who Can Benefit

Our DBT therapy is suitable for a wide range of clients in the DFW area. Teens, adults, and anyone experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, emotional dysregulation, or relationship difficulties can benefit. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed by stress, struggling with recurring negative thought patterns, or seeking better ways to navigate interpersonal challenges, comprehensive DBT provides structured support to help you thrive.

Who Benefits from Our Frisco DBT Skills Group?

While individual therapy is essential for deep processing, the DBT Skills Group, as part of comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy, is where the real-world application happens. In a community like Frisco, where social pressure can feel isolating, the group setting offers “universality” – the relief of realizing that others share your struggles. Our small, intentionally designed groups meet in a calm, boutique space that feels more like a comfortable lounge than a clinic. You might find our group therapy particularly transformative if you experience:

  • Burnout: Feeling like you have to be perfect in every area of life.
  • Intense Emotional Swings: Going from zero to sixty in seconds.
  • Relationship Rollercoasters: Frequent conflicts with partners, parents, or children.
  • Impulsive Coping: Relying on shopping, substance use, or social media to “numb out.”
  • Chronic Loneliness: Feeling disconnected despite being surrounded by people.

Frequently Asked Questions About DBT Skills Groups

No. Our DBT Skills Group is more like a classroom than a “process group.” While members do share examples of how they applied skills during the week, you are never forced to disclose personal trauma. The focus is on learning the tools (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, etc.) to handle the present and future.

A full cycle of our DBT Skills curriculum typically takes 24 weeks to cover all four modules. However, many of our Frisco families find that the skills are so life-changing that they choose to go through the cycle twice to move from “understanding” to “mastery.”

We understand the busy schedules of Frisco families. While consistent attendance is vital for learning the skills, we provide handouts and “make-up” information so you don’t fall behind. We also offer telehealth options if you can’t make it to our Frisco office in person.

We strive to keep our doors open. Because we are a boutique practice with a community-centered mission, we frequently start new cohorts and offer immediate intakes. You will typically hear back from us within 12 hours of your inquiry to discuss the next available start date.

If you are motivated to change and tired of your current patterns, you are ready. During your initial 12-hour callback, we will conduct a brief screening to ensure the group is the right level of care for you and that our boutique environment feels like a good fit for your healing journey.
