Group Counseling: Where Isolation Fades and Shared Strength Begins

Group counseling offers a unique therapeutic blend of peer support and professional guidance, making it an incredibly effective way to address common struggles such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. Our team, based in Frisco, TX, is committed to providing warm, professional, and accessible mental health solutions, both in-person in the North Texas area and virtually statewide. If you are seeking a supportive network where you can gain insight, develop coping skills, and practice new ways of relating to the world, Mindful Brooke Therapy is here. Learn how our group sessions can help you start building a more resilient, connected, and mindful life.

Many clients engage in individual work to address specific, deeply personal concerns. Group therapy often complements this one-on-one journey, offering a space to practice the tools learned individually. Whether you choose group sessions, individual therapy, or a combination of both, Mindful Brooke Therapy is committed to fostering your overall psychological well-being.

DBT Skills Group

As part of our Comprehensive DBT program, we offer DBT skills groups for adults and teens. In a true “comprehensive” model, the skills group is a required component. This is because the group functions like a classroom where you learn the tools, while individual sessions are where you learn how to apply those tools to your specific life circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions About Group Therapy

While individual therapy focuses on personal depth, group therapy provides a powerful “social laboratory.” It allows members to realize they are not alone in their struggles—a concept known as universality. In a group setting, you can practice new communication skills in real time, gain multiple perspectives, and receive support from peers who truly understand your experience. For many, the sense of community found in a group is a catalyst for faster growth.

Not at all. Many of our groups, such as our DBT Skills Groups, are “psychoeducational.” This means the focus is more on learning and practicing specific tools – like mindfulness or distress tolerance – rather than deep processing of past trauma. You are always in control of what you choose to share, and many members find that they learn just as much by listening and participating in structured activities as they do by speaking.

All our groups are facilitated by licensed, expert therapists who specialize in the group’s specific focus. Our facilitators ensure the environment remains safe, productive, and balanced. They are there to manage the group dynamic, teach evidence-based skills, and ensure that every member feels included and respected.

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of group therapy. At the start of every group cycle, all members sign a strict confidentiality agreement. We foster a culture of mutual respect where “what is said in the group stays in the group.” While we cannot legally guarantee the behavior of other members as we can for our clinicians, we find that the shared goal of healing creates a strong, self-policing bond of trust among participants.

To maintain our “boutique” feel and ensure everyone receives personalized attention, we keep our groups small. Most groups consist of 6 to 10 members. This size is large enough to offer diverse perspectives but small enough to feel intimate and safe, rather than overwhelming.

Yes, and in many cases, we highly recommend it. Group therapy is an excellent supplement to individual work. For example, you might learn a new emotional regulation skill in your DBT group on Tuesday and then discuss how to apply that specific skill to your personal life during your individual session on Thursday. We are happy to coordinate with your individual therapist (whether they are at our practice or elsewhere) to ensure your care is cohesive.

A support group is generally open-ended and focused on sharing experiences and emotional comfort. A skills group, like those we offer for teens and adults, is more structured. Think of it as a mix between a class and a therapy session. There is a specific curriculum, weekly homework or “home practice,” and a focus on gaining tangible tools to change how you handle stress and relationships.

Before joining any group at Mindful Brooke Therapy, we conduct a brief screening or intake. This ensures that the group’s goals align with your needs and that the group dynamic will be healthy for everyone involved. We look for members who are motivated to learn, willing to show up consistently, and ready to engage with others in a respectful way.
